Hi. My name is Terri and I think food should not only be nutritious, but also delicious and fun. I strongly believe in the power of nutrition for healing and preventing disease. After years of studying, experimenting, cooking healthful foods and ultimately healing myself, I am excited to share the fruits of my labor with you.
After spending years in a high stress career as a CPA, my health began to decline and I fell into a cycle of poor nutrition, believing harmful diet myths. I experienced chronic pain and digestive issues. Initially I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and eventually fibromyalgia. Unfortunately, these diagnoses merely described the symptoms I was experiencing, not the root cause of my condition. Traditional medicine offered me little except a number of pharmaceuticals which I did not want to take.
I researched my digestive symptoms and eliminated dairy and most wheat from my diet, which improved but did not completely eliminate my symptoms. It wasn’t until my first granddaughter was born and both she and my daughter developed signs of celiac disease that I discovered a key factor keeping me from complete healing—gluten.
Both my daughter and granddaughter developed signs of celiac disease and had to eliminate all gluten from their diets. I then began the process of eliminating all gluten from my diet, which is when I finally began to heal my gut.
While fibromyalgia debilitates other sufferers I have been truly blessed to have been able to manage mine. Because stress is a major trigger to fibromyalgia symptom flare-ups, being in a high stress career raised havoc on managing it and negatively affected my overall health. I came to a crossroads where I decided that it was not only my diet that required changing, but also my career path.
I returned to school and started taking those science classes I had avoided as an adolescent and actually enjoyed them! I gained a new sense of life and passion to help others heal themselves through nutrition. My strong desire to provide encouragement and guidance toward natural healing and instill recognition of the personal responsibility each of us has in our own health.
I was inspired by Nora Gedgaudas, author of Primal Body, Primal Mind, who led me to the Nutritional Therapy Association where I became certified as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP). The program taught me SO much more about true health and healing.
As a life-long learner, I continued my education and earned a MS in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine degree at the University of Western States. You’re never too old to learn or change the direction of your life! I also became a Certified Gluten Practitioner (CGP).
I am an accomplished speaker and have created presentations in “plain and simple English” to help debunk diet myths and move you toward true health.
Just a few more tidbits about me: my husband and I have three grown children we are very proud of and love being grandparents to the most beautiful girls and handsome boys. In addition to food, I enjoy sewing, gardening, yoga, meditating, walking the dog, and traveling.
I look forward to helping you along your journey to acquiring optimal health and wellness through nutrition.
